Basketball is a sport synonymous with the Castleisland distrct and the St. Mary’s Blitz held each year between St. Stephen’s Day and New Year is one of the most prestigious competitions in the country.

It attracts teams from local primary school through clubs, development squads, all the way to premier league adult sides.

Scoil Nuachabháil has a proud connection with the competition. Each year we send four and sometimes more teams to represent the school. We have Junior Boys and Girls teams (2nd, 3rd, 4th class) and Senior Boys and Girls teams (5th and 6th).

We have had lots of success in the competition, participating in and winning multiple finals in the past decade. Teams from Scoil Nuachabháil are well known for their Never Say Die attitude and for losing and winning with respect.

Thanks to our wonderful parents for their commitment to the children and to Ballymac Bobcats for promoting participation in basketball within the parish and the schools.

We also send teams to the Killarney Cougar Mini Sevens each year and again we have had great fun and success in the tournament.

Pupils who have left our school in the past few years have gone on to represent Ireland at under age level as well as representing their secondary school in national cup finals.
